Paint Fusion

After a lovely day with the family, celebrating the christening of my grand-daughter Nicole,it seemed only right that I had a little play. As usual, I have things that I must do but this was what I wanted to do! So here are the results - daisies and sunflowers on a crackle background.

The technique is called Paint Fusion and has been brought to us by Sheena Douglass, and she has made the one-stroke brush painting so much easier, with practically the same results. It's all about the way you load your brush!
Tomorrow I'll bring you some cards - quick Christmas cards - as that's what I shall be needing very soon!!

A little bit sketchy!

Now that my weeks holiday is coming to an end, I thought it about time I updated the blog - well it has been since last Sunday that I posted! And thanks to the multi-talented Sheena Douglass, here is my CASE on her lovely card using a couple of the latest 'A little bit sketchy' stamps. So useful - and I shall be trying some different colourways soon. She's on TV tomorrow at 10am so I shall be watching so as not to miss a single tip!

It's been a very long time!

It's been nearly 9 months since I updated my blog and what has happened to Blogger? It's seriously different! But here's a picture of what I have been teaching today at Colemans Craft Warehouse. In March this year, I managed to secure the best job I have ever had. I absolutely love going to work now! And as you see here, this is what a lovely group of 8 ladies made today during a 5 hour workshop. The kit is by Kaisercraft and can be decorated in whichever colourway you desire but we chose this way.

If you are in the Rushden Northants area, Colemans Craft Warehouse is well worth a visit. We are only open at weekends to the general public but have workshops running most days of the week. I have a regular Tuesday afternoon cardmaking class and a monthly patchwork class as well as individual workshops on various themes.

For my loyal followers, I hope to be able to bring you projects on a regular basis now that I'm back. And as you have inspired me over the years, I hope to return the favour once again.

The sun is shining........

.......and I can see that I need to go on a Photography course! I know my camera is just a 'shoot'n'click' but honestly - do they have to be so..bad when I'm doing a close-up?
Well, you can hopefully get the idea.
This is a tad better (really you say?) but what I'm trying to show you is the way I've made the flowers. I don't know if the idea is original, but I thought about trying this earlier today. I've seen flowers made with twisted ribbon stuck to a sticky circle so I thought I'd try the same principal with very narrow strips of coloured card. I punched a circle in the same colour as the card strips, and covered one side of the circle with sticky strip. Having twisted my 2mm strips of card, (carefully as too tightly twisting will break the strip) I placed the twisted strip around the edge of the circle and continued around and around, all the way across ,until the sticky circle was covered. A little prod in the centre so that the end was securely fixed to the card.

Well the weekend passed so quickly as well as another birthday! I've stopped counting now because I feel just the same as I did years ago - in the mind anyway! - perhaps not in the body!

Thank you to everybody who sent birthday wishes and the lovely cards I received from my crafting friends. So as Sunday is not a work day, I thought I'd play with my 'other passion' - Tilda! I can't stop buying them especially as I have collected them from day 1. I've used promarkers here as I really need to get used to them and produce some creations like many of the talented promarker users out there! One day I suppose!

Back tomorrow with the StampinUp creation which I am about
to make for my ladies session tomorrow!

Fast and Fabulous!

Inspired by the fabulously creative Monica Gale (My many many passions blog), I have re-created her style in my own way. Using Baja Breeze and Early Espresso with the Fast and Fabulous level 2 hostess stamp set, this is the result! And one of my favourite ways to always have the matching ribbon for any card, is to sponge the ink onto white satin ribbon. OK it's not the same depth of colour, but boy! does it work!
A side view to show the simple fold, which we usually use vertically.
And at the back of the card, with the help of a post-it note mask, there's a nice area to write your message.

Greenhouse Garden favour box

And here's another!! I'm on a roll now - and stamped first before assembling. So much easier. I could quite get carried away with these little beauties. But then I think,'What am I making these for?'. No reason but, little things please little minds! And so many other things I should be doing like h.......k, card commissions, orders of service, menus, place names..........but it's Sunday and this is my playday!

Love you much!

I just love my Bigshot and so wish that Stampin Up would have it available in their UK catalogue, along with all their exclusive dies. Well I managed to find this lovely favour box die yesterday, intending to use it for my son's wedding in March, not actually knowing what he wanted to put in them. Guess what? Something that will never fit in a box this size! Great!! Never mind - I love the little box anyway and it was an excuse to buy it!
Anyhow, I decided to try it out this morning. Duly ran it through the Bigshot - perfect! Folded the score lines, sticky strip on the tabs for quickness, and voila! - fits together beautifully. Lovely shape, I thought but really should be decorated. So.......... have you ever tried stamping on a 'not so sturdy' box? Moral of the story - stamp before you assemble. It's much easier! hasn't turned out too badly though. Thought I'd give it, empty, to my husband and ask him to put my birthday present in it! Just the right size for jewellery!!

Every Moment

It's a lot brighter today than of late and Spring keeps coming to mind. I know we should not wish our lives away but many people feel a whole load better when the sun is shining! So roll on Summer!

Well here's the card that my Tuesday afternoon ladies will be making today! I know they won't be looking right now so it will be a surprise. So Wednesday evening girlies - here's a sneak peek!
And here's the inside - you know how much I like to decorate the inside of a card these days, instead of a standard insert!
And neatly completed in it's own little revamped envelope. I've used a stamp set called Every Moment and a beautiful, delicate wheel design with So Saffron as the main colour.

Simples!!!

Just a quick make today!Made in probably 5 minutes from one A4 sheet of Very Vanilla.
I am absolutely loving using any of the red inks with this sumptuous, creamy card - it works so well! So the stamp is one of the Punch Bunch set (current SAB and FREE), and I've used my SU markers in Red Riding Hood and Wild Wasabi. Punched with the circle punches, and the scallop circle, and layered up. The card on the left has been distressed on both circle edges just to add interest.

Something a liitle different.....

At the weekend I really wanted to make something other than cards, although I knew I needed to plan my cards for workshops this week. So this is what I came up with! A set of drawers, matchbox size, stacked and covered with papers for effect. It could be used as a jewellery box or to hold lots of crafty bits and pieces.
But that wasn't enough - I've been desperate to use my sewing machine for ages but knew if I got the bug for sewing again, there would be know stopping me. And I need to focus on cardmaking and papercrafts, NOT fabric and threads. So just a quick makeover for a couple of calico bags I've had for a while.
As we're all trying to save the planet by using fewer plastic carrier bags, I invested in a few of these bags which were crying out to be altered! So a simple flower die to cut the fabric with my Bigshot, and blanket stitched to the bag.
And as I can never make just one of anything, I used the extra flowers to decorate a smaller bag without stitching the edges, just ironed on with 'wonderweb'. I feel it needs a little something to complete it but at the moment , I can't think what! A few buttons in the centres perhaps?
Well maybe next time, I'll have produced a different design when a little inspiration has come to me.

Happiness shared........

Well I'll share my happiness with you after Mr Brown has been to deliver my Sale-a-Bration stamp sets I ordered on Monday!
But...........that's also the name of the stamp set I've used on this twisted easel card - Happiness shared. The beautiful rose takes little effort to colour as the shaded areas take away the hard work of blending colours for shading. I used So Saffron for the rose, stamped in Crumb Cake and matted the image on Crumb Cake cardstock.
For a normal easel card, after scoring the centre fold, you then score half way across one of the panels , parallel to the first score line, and fold. But for the twisted easel , based on any sized square card, the first score line is the same - the centre fold. Then instead of the straight , parallel line, you need to score the diagonal line, from the top right point of the card down to the centre fold scored line. (Hope that makes sense!) Fold the diagonal scored line so that makes a 'mountain fold' and mat a square of card (the same size as your base card folded flat) onto the triangle which is touching the base of the card. Decorate as desired!

Sweet Summer III

Variation on a theme - using the same stamp set as a couple of days ago but using colours outside my comfort zone! Tempting Turquoise, Early Espresso and Wild Wasabi - how exotic! And then a dash of my trusty Spritzer ( I must get used to playing with this gadget coz the results get better every time!)

Sweet Summer II

Back again! I fancied a play yesterday with this Sale-a-Bration stamp set, just to see how useful it could be. And you can see how different the cards can be just by placing the elements in different positions. I used a favourite colour combination of Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive on Very Vanilla cardstock, and coloured the leaves and flowers with ink from the ink pads giving a perfect, but lighter, shade-match with a paintbrush and minimal water.

Stormy skies

I was just looking through the window at how beautiful the sky looked when I remembered that I needed to show you a card. I do have a few but they've not been photographed yet so at this time of day, I stand no chance at all!
So here's one I made a couple of weeks ago - quite simple, using the Just Believe set again and a resist technique. I used whisper white cardstock, stamped the image with versamark then embossed with clear embossing powder. Then sponged colour allover the card so that the image 'popped'. A delicate punched border adds the final touch!

Spring into Summer!

I'm jumping ahead now, Spring yesterday and today, Summer. And with the prospect of more snow today!
Well the card is quite simply a tri-fold with a curved front using the Sweet Summer stamp set which you could have for free, during the Stampin'Up sale-a-bration, with any order of £45. And if this set doesn't appeal, there's three more sets to choose from! Can't be bad?

So I decided to decorate the inside too - always a nice touch, I think!
Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wasabi and Daffodil Delight are the colours I used on Very Vanilla cardstock. Hope you like.

Getting back into the routine...

Today was the first cardmaking class in the New Year so it feels as if the routine is slowly coming back - at least I shall know which day of the week it is!!
And this wasn't the card I wanted to show you but the picture I had taken was so bad that I need to photograph it again.
I made this card using my new baby - the Grand Calibur - a Present to myself! And the cardstock was, of course, Stampin Up Pretty in Pink, Blushing Bride and Whisper White with which I made my 'flowers of the moment' along with some sponging.

A little bit of Spring in the air?......... I wish!

Wishful thinking! It's New Year bank holiday Monday and I'm looking forward to springtime so here's a little easel card using Funky Four stamp set. It's quite difficult to see but I have distressed the edges with scissor blades although precision files from the Distressing Essentials kit would be better.
And the card is surrounded by small distressed roses which I just can't stop making. They are made from punched circles cut in spirals, edges sponged and then coiled loosely and glued at the base. So easy to make whilst watching TV!!

So the New Year is here and hopefully better things to come if you don't listen too intently to the Government. We've just got to make the best of everything and think positively! And one of my aims for the coming year is to blog on a more regular basis and share some of my cards with you.
Considering I have to come up with new ideas every week for my card classes, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to do this!

So here's one I made earlier, as they say! Yet again the Just Believe stamp set, a bit of sponging and spritzing, a TH flourish and paper roses which have been distressed to match the colour scheme.

Real red and Old olive - a favourite colour combo of mine!
Stamp sets used were Tree trimmings and Hung up on Holidays with Real red grosgrain ribbon and gold elastic. The greeting and flourish (branches) were from Season of Joy.

Christmas in July! Part 2

Have you tried heat embossing on vellum? Well here are my efforts! And I was so pleased with the results. Having tried this technique some years ago, I have never tried again until now as the end result was so disappointing - scorch marks and a wavy piece of vellum!
I have come to the conclusion that if you use quality vellum cardstock from Stampin'Up and a quality embossing powder from Stampin'Up, you will always be successful! And were the ladies impressed with their own results?
And just to highlight the silver embossed snowflakes (Serene snowflakes stamp set) I did some subtle sponging around the edges with Night of Navy, on the reverse side of the vellum.
The main image is from the Silent night stamp set, mounted on some silver card.

Vellum is the way to go!

Christmas in July!

No! I am not organised for Christmas but I do know a lot of ladies who like to start their preparations early as they make a lot of special cards for Christmas. So the idea of Christmas in July seems a good idea!
Here's the first of 4 cards we made at a workshop over the weekend. A quite simple one to start with , using the soft holly wheel in Always artichoke and the berries were coloured with the Real red SU marker. The wreath in the centre was made using a stamp from Mr & Mrs inked with Always artichoke, and cut out. The same stamp was inked with Real red and the centre spotted circle, punched out using the 1 3/8" SU circle punch. And the greeting came from Loads of Love, punched using the SU large oval. So straightforward and simple! Just what we need when making a lot of cards.

Brayering - Lovely as a Tree

So here's my last brayered card for the moment. Bashful blue and old olive form a great staple base for a landscape card using the Lovely as a Tree stamp set. To get the distinction between grass and sky which is not a straight line, you just need to make a mask for the sky, before brayering the grass, by stamping the trees image on a separate piece of paper, and cut away the area below the'hills' line. Simple but effective!

Brayering with sympathy

Now this one, I didn't particularly like when I had completed it but the more I see it , the more I warm to it! The sentiment comes from Close as a Memory but the floral silhouette is from a US set called Upsy Daisy. I am so hoping that it makes the new SU catalogue in October. I am sure that you will all want the set as it is beautiful.
Barely banana, pale plum, not quite navy and a hint of night of navy gives the colour combination here. The image and sentiment were stamped in Night of navy.
The moon was made with the masking technique and I also masked when adding the pale plum layer to get the effect of curved skies/ mountains at this point.

Brayering for Christmas

Another colourway, ideal for an early start on your Christmas cards. This time , a combination of bashful blue, tempting turquoise and not quite navy/ night of navy. And the lovely little deer from Winter Post. And the trees were from Lovely as a Tree.
Always a hint of dazzling diamonds to set the snowy scene!
I've edged the Night of Navy cardstock with Frost White shimmer paint from Stampin'Up with a sponge dauber which gives a lovely fine, even line around the edge.

Brayering Workshop

I held a brayering workshop for some lovely ladies on Saturday, and this is the first of 4 cards we made. The idea was to concentrate on the technique using the brayer rather than the shape/layout of the card. Now I have to admit that I am NOT Barbara Gray! I admire her greatly as she is truly the goddess of the brayer!
However, practice can make perfect but I am not quite there yet!
So just a combination of colours - barely banana, so saffron, pumpkin pie and rose red from Stampin'Up with two beautifully useful stamps from Autumn Days, stamped in close to cocoa.

Handbag card

Oh how I just love the Greenhouse Garden stamp set! The picture in the Stampin Up catalogue just does it no justice whatsoever. But once you have used the stamps, you just can't leave them alone.
Now it is a two-step stamping set which usually means you need to use the Stamp-a-ma-Jig for accurate placement but on this occasion it is so easy to place one image on top of the other for a very effective image.
Here's the inside, where I've made a small greeting card. I've punched a 1 3/4" circle for a mask and then random stamped around the edges in the same way as I've stamped the main card.
I've used Pretty in Pink with Regal Rose, then So Saffron overstamped with Pumpkin Pie and filled the gaps with Always Artichoke. The colours work so well and one of my favourite, easy combinations within my 'comfort zone'!!

All-in-one Card and Gift

So........ I haven't updated my blog for over 2 months - I'm sorry! But it doesn't mean that I haven't been making cards or crafting in one way or another. And here's my latest creation as I needed a holder for a candle which I had embellished with stamping, for a workshop I amholding tomorrow. Last minute, that's me! Or you could say disorganised, but it always works out in the end!
I just had to use some of the brand new clours from Stampin' Up which they have released during the month of May, before it is listed in the new catalogue in October. This is Melon Mambo, and isn't it fab? And the new Polka Dot ribbon to match?

And here's the 'all-in-one-card-and-gift' using another new colour - Rich Razzleberry - and the co-ordinating Polka Dot ribbon - so lush! And designer paper from the Country Wall collection, only available while stocks last. I made this card design having been inspired whilst blog-hopping and can't remember where. So whoever designed it, it's fab - and thank you for inspiring me to make my version.

Wouldn' t it have been lovely to have this on Christmas Day? So long as you didn't have to travel, of course. But this was the week before, and just had to take a picture.
No cards today, sorry,but there are some on the way.

Using birds and my technique of the moment.......

I came across these stamps in my stash the other day and thought that they would work well with my favourite technique at the moment. I just love sponging! And I've found that the finger daubers from Stampin' Up work so well. So I've tried a few different colour combos.

And the fact that SU have all the matching cardstock and ink colours makes life so easy. Even with this one - I'd run out of Pumpkin Pie cardstock so I just used my ink pad to edge a square of Whisper White and can you tell the difference?

Here's Old Olive, Always Articoke and a touch of Apricot Appeal.

I used whatever I felt like here! Looks a little like a rainbow background here! But the ink daubers allow you to smoothly blend from one colour to another.

Simples!!

This card was inspired by a card I saw on show at Convention, made by the lovely Zoe Tant, with whom I had the pleasure of spending many happy hours, a few weeks ago. I've used a couple of stamps from Simply Said , in my version. So thanks Zoe for your inspiration!

This card uses a combination of stamps from Hello Again (only £9.95) and the level 2 hostess set Itty Bitty Buds. My inspiration came from seeing a card (somewhere) with buttons in the centre of flowers.

Just have a play with different colour combinations and see what you can do! That's all I did!

A glittering Christmas!

Would you believe that these treese were made using the Scallop circle punch? And the sky used a scallop circle to act as a mask whilst sponging with Bashful Blue? How versatile is that!
Also an excuse to use drops of Crystal Effects and Fine Galaxy glitter from Stampin' Up. Don't do what I did though! Use ONE glitter and allow to dry before using a second colour! See the mess? But it all adds to the effect!

Glitter again, but this time I used the Champagne colour and it is so classy! Tree Trimmings stamp set was used for the baubles and in the Good Friend set there is an open flower that I use upside down, and glittered the ends of the image using the 2-way Glue pen. A must-have for your basic tool kit!

Stamping on Candles

Now here's something I have been meaning to try for some time now. The first hurdle was to find reasonably priced candle so that failure would not be too costly!! So having found some small, vanilla scented candle in a pack of 3, I thought I'd give it a go. If all went wrong, I could burn the candle myself and enjoy the aroma. But my very first attempt, the Snowflake in the middle, was perfect. I couldn't believe how quick and simple it could be!

So how is it done?

If you thought that I have a very steady hand whilst rolling the rubber stamp on the surface of the candle, you'd be wrong!
The secret is by stamping your image onto tissue paper. And I just had a whole unopened ream of A2 size, white tissue paper which I had bought a while ago , to do....... I can't remember what, but I'm so glad I have it!
Having stamped your image, cut around the image leaving about 5mm around the edges. Then with a strip of waxed paper or greaseproof paper that is slightly wider than the height of the candle, and about twice as long as the circumference of the candle, place the stamped image in position and wrap the greseproof paper around the candle to hold it in place. The excess greaseproof serves as a handle to hold the image and candle together whilst setting the design.
Allow your heatgun to heat up for about 10 seconds before directing the heat towards the stamped image through the greaseproof paper. Watch the edges of the tissue paper around the image as they will gradually disappear, showing that the image is joining with the candle. Don't focus in one spot for too long! I tend to blow the heat over the whole area to start and then follow the disappearing tissue edges around the image, then finish with an allover blast.
Then carefully peel back the greaseproof paper to reveal a perfectly stamped candle. Very satisfying!

I'm hooked on this technique so I had to play some more but this time an all occasion candle, using Close as a Memory stamp set. I used the Stampin Write markers to give different colours on areas of the stamp - with a bit of 'huffing' to remoisten the inks. Finished off with ribbon around the bottom of the candle - purely for decoration and should be removed before burning the candle!

Treat bags

With the great ideas that are shared on the ILWS forum, these were an ideal quick make for a recent Christmas Bazaar that I attended. I took the opportunity to try out the Craft White ink pad, new to this year's SU catalogue along with my long awaited Kraft cardstock. The two go together like 'strawberries and cream' !

I cut a 12" x 12" piece of Kraft cardstock into 3, each piece measuring 4" wide. Depending on the contents you could work with a 12" strip but I decided to make the strips 9" long so scored at 4" and 5", giving a 1" gussett and folded along the score lines. I sponged the white ink with a finger dauber around the edges and then stamped randomly with the snowflake from the Winter Post stamp set. With the 1 3/4" circle punch, I punched a hole and sponged more ink around the aperture. Contract 3/8" grosgrain ribbon was passed through the hole and round the side and joined by a knotted bow.
I filled a cello bag with sweets, sealed it and placed inside the stamped and folded cardstock, and sealed the top with a stamped closure, being a Tab, punched in contrasting card and folded in half.

The children loved these, and they were so quick and easy to make. The idea could be used for other occasions throuhout the year.

Masking for Christmas

My bow has slipped! I didn't notice that until now, but hey! you get the idea!
Punch a 1 3/8" circle in the centre of a post-it-note and place in the centre of a piece of Whisper White cardstock. Using Pretty in Pink, sponge inside the circle, then use the floursh stamp from Season of Joy stamp set, randomly with same ink. Pretty in Pink cardstock base was stamp with Versamark using the same flourish stamp. Merry Christmas is from the same stamp set.

There have been a few versions of this technique but I decided to use the Fir Cones stamp from Autumn Days stamp set. I punched a 1 3/4" circle from a post-it-note and placed the circle in the centre of the square card. Using Stampin Write markers in Old Olive and Creamy Caramel, I stamped around the edge of the circle in a fairly uniform fashion, thinking of clock times = 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Then filled in the gaps! The red sprigs were made using only the end part of the Autumn Days berries stamp.

Finished off using the Scallop Oval and Large Oval punches with the Merry Christmas greeting from Season of Joy.

After Convention.......

I've just about come down from my cloud after going to the first European Convention in Frankfurt. It's been over a month since I returned, after a fab weekend with like minded SU demonstrators from the UK, France and Germany . What lovely, friendly people who were ready to share their ideas by creating card swaps which certainly inspired me to spread the word. And here's the stage which says it all - and I even walked the stage as I was no. 20 in Demonstrator of the Year category, in the UK. So a big THANK YOU to all my customers and regular workshop attendees who helped me to get there.

I really didn't take enough photos while I was there but this is the result of one of the demonstrations, bravely done on stage by one of the top achievers in France or Germany - sorry but I can't remember who!

And no pictures of cards - I mean , get your priorities right! This was the most delicious chocolate muffin with a chocolate truffle centre, that I have ever eaten! It was part of the lunch we were given on the second day - two cheese bagels, and apple, a banana. a 'Corny' bar, THE MUFFIN, and yet another bottle of that disgusting fizzy water! Now bubbles in champagne are fine, but water? No!! IMHO

Sorry I haven't got more to say but if you are thinking that perhaps you should have been there too, why not get in touch and see how you could be at the next Convention to be held in London next year. You won't regret it!

I'll be back soon with a few little makes that I have been creating over the last few weeks - so many ideas and not enough time to try them out - you know the feeling?

Off to Convention in Frankfurt today!

Here's my card swaps - quite simple as time was of the essence!

Here's the Card candy - sorry about the bad photo! And my 'Bag Tag' is below.

The day has finally arrived! It's the first European Stampin' Up convention in Frankfurt on 6th and 7th November so I'm flying out this afternoon with my roomie, Jo. We're going to have a great time meeting other demonstrators from the UK, France and Germany.

And part of the enjoyment will be swapping cards with each other - that's why I have been so busy since last Thursday, making about 120 cards and 'Card Candy'. And my Bag Tag, so that I know which bag is mine! Apparently, we are given a special bag to celebrate Convention, so you can imagine 300-400 similar bags walking about the convention centre!

Just the journey to Birmingham airport now, after I've packed! Got a few things in piles, in different places, but must put them in my suitcase so I have time to deliberate as to what I have forgotten to pack.

I'll let you know all about it on my return. All the new ideas, special news and anything else of great crafting interest. And who knows? You might decide to join me next year as a Stampin' Up demonstrator. Just let me know.

Tote Bag

Here's a Tote bag, inspired by a very clever lady called Ann (Crafty Squirrel). Her version totally 'wowed' me when I saw her pictures so I decided to create my own version using Stampin' Up Designer papers from Tea Party set and the red/green version used the new Christmas Jingle set. The latter set has so many extras including self-adhesive die-cut strips (the christmas tree border is one of these) and co-ordinating Tree Trimmings self-adhesive embellishments. It really is a must have set. There is so much left in this kit to be able to make a huge amount of cards!
I decided to make a Christmas version to hold my card list and presents list but would make a lovely present or ideal item for craft stalls.

A huge 'Thank You' to everyone who came to the Catalogue launch on Saturday and making it such a sociable occasion. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, it seemed that we all enjoyed ourselves! And it was great to meet some new 'addicts' and welcome them to the wonderful world of Stampin' Up.
So a little card for the occasion , using the versatile 'Thank You Kindly' stamp set which has been punched and layered using the popular Large Oval and Scallop Oval punches. I just used a background of embossed card which has been lighly inked with Pretty in Pink and sponged all the edges to bring the card together. Sponging is so popular at the moment, and very easy to do, but it always makes a card 'work'.

And here's a close up of punched flowers that have also been sponged and layered with a brad centre.

Just a quick post as I don't feel that I've done much all week. So I've just had half an hour in the craft room, playing with my i-Top brad maker. I thought I'd try it out - not difficult but how many times can you drop the brad and paper whilst you're trying to press it together? I think I've set the record!

Outside my comfort zone!

Well I'm really getting into this regular 'blogging at the weekend'. It's easier on the mind to do it this way, otherwise I am a bad blogger who posts once in a month or 6 times in one day!!
This card is quite pale for me - using Very Vanilla as a base, minimal sponging with So Saffron and Cameo Coral, and my first use of the So Saffron 5/8" Grosgrain from Stampin' Up. This is one of the two FREE reels you can get with orders of £45 or more during August. If you would like to place an order, just let me know.
The main image is from 'Bloomin' with Beauty' stamp set from SU, along with the wording, coloured with the SU markers in Cameo Coral and Blush Blossom.

Martha Stewart punches

Martha Stewart has just released her 'Punch around the Page' edge and corner punches. When I first saw this particular one, I just had to have them. Not exactly cheap but well worth it, I think? How could you possibly get this design going around a corner absolutely right?

So playing with sponging AGAIN, and adding a spritz of pearl mica powder (you can just see the effect). I've used the 'ever useful' SU scallop oval and oval punches for the greeting, and edged with colour to make it stand out.

And a bad!! close up of the pearlescent effect and the image stamped and heat embossed with SU black embossing powder - the best black EP ever - IMHO!

Distessing with Stampin' Up

A few more cards I made whilst playing with colours and resist distressing. Using the large stamp from Baroque Motifs for that wonderful flourish, I stamped with Versamark and clear embossed. Then added colours with a sponge, in a swirling motion to give a lovely soft blend. The greetings were from the True Friend and Curvy Verses sets but and wording could be used depending on the occasion.

Playtime

Just a quick post before I go out for the evening. This was inspired by watching some You Tube videos by Thinking Inking, Jenny McGuire, who uses Distress inks. So knowing I had bought a thousand luggage tags about a year ago, I thought I would have a play. And here's the result! Quite pleasing I thought.
Obviously, I have about 30 other tags which I have 'played' with but this is the one I chose to make into a card.
A load of sponging (my fave technique of the moment!), a bit of spritzing, sponged ink onto some 'nasty' colour, but nice shaped flowers, folded a flower in half to make a different shaped flower, a pleasant Sizzix die for the leaves (scored for the veins) and lovely Stampin'Up sentiment stamped and matted on Chocolate chip.
All of this card could be made using Stampin' Up refill inks so that is my next move, as it would have been so much quicker and easier to co-ordinate the colour scheme.

Live your dream

Just a quick picture of a card which was put together very quickly. Inspired by SU Monica using this particular stamp for one of her techniques in the Stamp With Us Summer online classes (a must for you all - they are fab!). Plus, I had a new Martha Stewart punch which I had tried out on a scrap of SU Regal Rose cardstock.
And not wanting to waste it, I made this card.
A little tip I thought of whilst making it, was the greeting I had stamped on Whisper White and punched with the SU Oval punch, needed to be mounted on a larger oval - which I don't have! So to get the effect of such, I punched another oval (same size) in Regal Rose, cut it in half, and then stuck it behind the WW leaving a gap on the reverse, but giving the impression of using a larger oval punch. Try it and see if it works for you.

Just one last card for the day. On the same theme as I just found another piece of card that I had embossed earlier. So a bit of sponging again, trying out a few different colours together.
Started at the bottom with Mellow moss, into Barely Banana to So Saffron, followed by Almost Amethyst into Lavender Lace to Lovely Lilac, finally using Bordering Blue into Night of Navy.
I must say how fantastic SU Whisper White card takes all the colours and blends do well, whether you are using inks or chalks and sponging, blending or brayering.

Brayering and Masking

Whilst looking at You Tube this morning (in the early hours having been woken by my mobile - a text from my DD who's in Tenerife at the mo, telling me how much she loves me! , probably a little too much pop I think, as both sons had also received the same message, at the same time - bless her!!) I watched a brayer tutorial and here's my version. A LITTLE MORE PRACTICE ME THINKS!!
But, all created on one layer of whisper white by masking and reverse masking, the centre panel is brayered and the outer edge is sponged by masking the sunset panel. I have made slits in the uninked edge to slot the ribbon through and added a bow, using SU Close to Cocoa grosgrain, with a glue dot.

My first attempts with a brayer.....

My latest acquisition from Ebay - Upsy Daisy. I do hope it will be in the new Stampin' Up catalogue in October. Not too long to wait now, and then we shall know. You'll probably notice that I haven't actually use a brayer for all three. Top right and bottom, I did use the brayer with Adirondak ink pads that have a range of colour in each pad. This certainly makes life easy where the colours blend, but I definitely need to practice my technique efore showing ithers how to use one. However, the overall result will be well worth the time spent practicing. The flowers were stamped with Versamark and covered with SU black embossing powder, and heated with the heat gun. I must say that SU black embossing powder is by far, the best black embossing powder I have ever used. Absolutely awesome - very fine for the detail and gives a beautiful glossy finish when heated.

This was actually my first go at using the stamp and I decided to spong the background using Olive Green, Pumpkin Pie and Ruby Red. I like using this technique, just building up the intensity of colour as you like. And so much easier to blend the colour change. But I will persevere with my brayer - I will!

Saturday Stanpin' Up workshop

What a lovely day we had! Two groups of lovely ladies came to my 'Crazy for Cupcakes' workshop yesterday and created these 3 cards, each using different techniques but using the one stamp set. And you can see how versatile it is, although there was far more that I could have showed them but time never allows!
This is the 'Step fold' card made with Pretty in pink and Close to Cocoa cardstock, Sweet Always DSPs, oval and oval scallop punch. The cakes were coloured using aquabrushes to pick up the colour from inside the ink pad lid after squeezing when closed.

This standard fold A6 card showed how the scallop edge border punch can be used to make a curved scallop edge. So ingenious, yet so simple when you know how! Joanne on ILWS has made a great tutorial on how to do this - and it save sme trying to put it into words!. So why not take a look on this wonderful, friendly and helpful forum.

And a gift card holder. So useful with the internal pocket for you to place your gift, whether it be a £50 note (oh yeah!), gift voucher or what about a lottery ticket for a Christmas pressie?

Sunday is playtime!!

Today I felt like making a batch of quick cards when you don't really have to think?? Hoping that the mojo returns whilst peeling back the double-sided tape, and thinking about what I'll be making next. Do you ever feel like that?
During the week I saw the Bind-It-All being demoed, so I wanted to use that. Then I saw Barbara Gray using her brayer - stunningly!! - so I wanted to try that out. But with so many other priority tasks, I haven't had the time. That's why these little cuties were the order of the day. I couldn't NOT use some SU products, so there's some sponging with SU inks and edging the toppers with SU inks, SU buttons and ribbon and some background stamping.

And the odd peel-off!

Playing with Triple embossing

Time has just flown lately, and I haven't blogged for over a month - how bad is that? I've just realised that if I'm not at work then I'm thinking about crafting , if not actually crafting!

I have the most understanding husband who not only does most of the housework but does all the ironing too! How lucky am I!!

So I was ablr to have a 'play' with some Stampbord and triple embossing, something I had wanted to do for ages. Now the photos are not fantastic but you can get the idea - in actual fact, they look better in real life.

Here are some of the pieces that I made using Cosmic Shimmer sprays to colour the Stampbord and also SU ink refills. Various SU stamp sets were ideal for the circles and ovals such as Mr & Mrs and Organic Grace. I stamped with Basic Black to give a good clear image and then triple embossed with SU clear enbossing powder. It is great fun and you should try it out.

I used the SU ink refills for this one from the Rich Regals collection. Just dropping a couple of spots at random, then moving the drops over the surface. I then sponged a little to fill the gaps. I just had to spritz a little gold Cosmic shimmer to add that feel of luxury. Unfortunetaely it doesn't show up too well

This oval was stamped with a Mr & Mrs stamp. I just love jade and blue together - reminds me of peacock colours.

So now I've sussed out how to do this, it's time to move on and find some other ideas to try. Perhaps it won't be too long before I post again but don't hold your breath!!

Anya - isn't she so cute?

As it was such a wet and miserable morning, it was a good excuse to craft again!
I have plenty of things I really should do but I feel relaxed when I'm making cards - that is, starting and actually finishing a card. I have so many 'works in progress!
So whilst the dinner is cooking, I thought I'd blog! (Got a bit carried away and now have no cauliflower as it's burnt to the bottom of the pan!)

And this is a different take on the Essence of Love stamp set, using Pumpkin Pie and Ruby Red and Old Olive SU markers and spritzed. I just love this technique!

I've another project in progress at the moment after seeing (somewhere but I can't remember - apologies! to the inspirer) yet another 3D box. Just getting the measurements together as I feel a workshop coming on!

Bags and Boxes

I just love making bags and boxes, especially so that they can hold notelets.
On June 13th, I am holding 2 workshops when we will be making one of these holders with 4 notelets plus another larger box, in a different style with cards to fit. Both sessions are full but I shall be holding a similar workshop shortly, if antbody else would like to know how to make these lovely little gifts.

This one is cut using a Sizzix Bigz die and I've used the small flower stamp around the edges, from the Loads of Love stamp set from SU.

This notelet set uses the Oval All stamp set with the Oval scallop punch, oval punch and scallop edge border punch. All so useful! If you would like to order any of these, I would be happy to get them for you. Just let me know by email triciaablett@hotmail.com.

And these cute little boxes are also a Bigz die - just having a play with sponging to see what effects I could get. I have owned this die for some while now but had been so frustrated that some of the scored lines were actually cutting through the cardstock. Thought it must be my Bigshot at fault after trying different thicknesses of card and paper. It worked fine with paper, but why would I want a box made from 80gm paper???

But then last week, I found a Super Crease mat at the local craft warehouse and voila!! All my dies with score lines are now functional. I was ecstatic when it worked - how sad!

I don't know what I would use these boxes for as they are only about an inch and a half square!

Perhaps a delicious handmade Belgian chocolate or maybe a bit of jewellery! Maybe both!! Well it was my 7th wedding anniversary yesterday and I didn't get either but I did have plenty of these little boxes to use, should the need have arisen!! He is taking me out for a romantic meal tonight though, so better get ready!

Promarkers v Copics

I was a bit cheesed off that my new Magnolias Graduate collection didn't arrive this morning, so I thought I'd have a play with some I already have, along with trying out my Promarkers. I already have Copics and to be honest, I'm not very good at blending with them, so Ithought I'd try PMs to see how I got along with them. And since Joanna Sheen has such a great deal on them at the moment, I couldn't resist them!
So here's the first Tilda, mounted on a printed background (cheating!), by PCCrafter. But then my efforts went into cutting out the fiddly tree swing. I enjoyed using the PMs but I'm not particularly good with them. They have good control as the tips are harder than Cs but there are fewer colours, meaning that the colours are not as close together for blending - but not bad!

And here's another! Tilda in the rain from th Chasing Butterflies collection. I loved these colours and I think they blended better. Just a little bling in the centre of the flowers but the card is waiting for a greeting. I'll add this when I send it to whoever!

Essence of Love

I saw a few cards on SCS made using this set and as it was not in our catalogue, I WANTED IT!! Badly!! So I trawled Ebay and found it in the States and received it just the other day. And here's my effort!
I used SU markers direct to the stamp and then spritzed with water from a fine one by Tim Holz. I'm quite pleased with my first effort.
The card is a cut using a big Sizzix die and I love it!

Card swap - seriously late! Sorry!

At last - here are the cards I made for the card swap on ILWS, which I have just got round to sending. Sorry girls that they're late but life has been so hectic lately.

And in close-up (not very clear!), this is a diamond diagonal fold which I demonstrated at my last craft class. But this time, instwad of using an A4 sheet, I tried it with A6. It's quite a cute size - A7 I suppose- and easy to make so long as you are accurate with the scoring,folding and single cut. Not much to ask - eh?

Look what I found in the garden this morning at about 6 o'clock!!
Now I'm no photographer but I was so pleased to capture this shot, and quite surprised that the little fellow decided to stay put while I went to find the camera. And the battery wasn't flat - that makes a change!
Not my usual post but I knew that I hadn't posted for a while so at least it's something different. I must now get down to some serious card making. Got a few to get posted!

Latest Challenge.........

What a bad picture!!

The light was fading but when I decide to post, I have to do it - NOW!!

But you get the idea?

The final live challenge with Stamp With Us was tonight. It really has been a great experience and it is something you should all think about taking part in, if the Team (Monica, Natalie and Zoe) decide to do another round. It was fabulous value for money and I'm sure a great time was had by all!

So the challenge was to use:

Blue

Some form of embossing

Pink ribbon

One button

And the card on the right was my entry. Monica gave us 18 minutes to make a card, so I used my new Sizzix die (wow - they have a load of wonderful new ones), put the card through the Cuttlebug (when I had managed to find my folders - people who know me will know how disorganised I am!!). I picked the first stamp set I laid my hands on, never used before. But I think the floral stamp is just lovely. I used my markers in Regal Rose and Old Olive, then added a little Pumpkin Pie in the centres - and it worked! Tied a bow in Regal Rose 5/8" grosgrain ribbon.

So if I can make this card in less than 18 minutes, then so can you!

Stamp With Us challenge last Friday

A bit late in posting, I know but ho-hum! That's life!
Last Friday, I had yet another frantic crafting and fun-filled evening. The on-line classes with Stamp With Us are just the best! I am a Stampin'Up demonstrator in the Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire area, and I find these classes are inspirational - but you don't have to be a demonstrator to join. Here I used:

Forest Friends stamp set

Whisper white and Regal rose cardstock

Tea and Crumpets designer paper

Regal rose grosgrain ribbon

And the second challenge of the evening was to use Cameo coral, Certainly celery, Bashful blue and So saffron. And all to be completed and uploaded in half an hour! So just a quickie box in Cameo Coral textured 12"x12" cardstock, with a strip of Tea Party designer paper scaloped along both edges, and a focal point of the large stamp from Playful Petals, stamped 4 times and layered up. And I just had to use a hint of bling - SU dazzling diamonds glitter!

Stamp With Us launch

What a fantastic evening! The launch of the Stamp With Us online classes happened at 7 pm last night. All I can say, is that you eally need to be part of it! Great fun was had by all.
Here's my attempt at the first challenge............

It just happened that my very last SU purchase was Nursery Necessities stamp set, and I had to create something using it along with BLACK!!! , red ribbon and two buttons. And only 45 minutes to decide what to make, make, photograph and upload to the site. But I like a challenge so I went for it! Don't know whether I particularly like it?

Today, I've received the online project and can't wait to have a go! Watch this space and you may see something later.

Guess what? ....I didn't win the lottery

But I did make another card!!

I wanted to play with my new toy , 'The Slice'. One of the memory cards has the 'Noteworthy' shape just like the Sizzix die in the US catalogue, but not as big. This shape is similar and so easy with double-sided papers. The papers are from the Level 1 hostess set of 6"x6" papers. It was easy to flip over the centre part of the shape and fit back into the frame. But I still love the ease with which you can use a punch, so a couple of EK Success flower and leaf punches for the corner arrangements. The flowers needed a centre and I just love those 'dew drops', so added a few! And Tilda just had to play a part in the card! Watercloured with SU watercolour crayons , cut out and mounted on 1mm foam pads . The circular greeting reads 'Happy Thoughts'.

I'm on a roll!!

I just can't stop colouring today!! No work - just a quick trip to take MIL to the garden centre - taxi husband to the train station - pick up DD from work - 2 bottles of wine from the Off Licence and only playing in between. I really ought to do some HW but you just gotta have some playtime!
My new Tildas from the Chasing Butterflies collection arrived this morning so I stamped a few and started painting. It would be so rude not to!! So here she is sitting on a watering can.

And here is Tilda in the rain. I just couldn't think how to put the card together, and there's still something missing I think! I really should plan things properly by choosing my papers first and then colouring to match the papers. But then really, Stampin'Up does that for you!

And finally , Tilda carrying a large bunch of real red roses (with a touch of Sakura stardust!) and a hint of dazzling diamonds glitter on the butterfly. No card is complete without a touch of DD in MHO.

I've got a good 5 hours until I need to pick up DH, so who knows what I will post later. Must watch Hells Kitchen though and I have a feeling that I'm going to win to lottery tonight!! he he he

Stamp With Us challenge 2

Just playing with my new toys! I managed to get some Greetings Farm Anya stamps from the US yesterday and I love them! So used some SU colours 'outside my comfort zone' - Chocolate Chip and Taken with Teal. Just shows that you can't go wrong with SU colours - I think!! Well I was quite pleased with the results.

Nearly every card I make has ribbon on it in some form or another. Why is that?

Is it because of SU colour co-ordination?

There is always the right colour, and it always works?

There is no time wasted on searching for the exact colour?

Or is it that when I have a whole reel containing over 9m,

I dare to use some!!!?

Another sneaky peak - stamp and DP - and a grosgrain bow! And of course, the hint of dazzling diamonds glitter. This was so easy, as the stamp does all the hard work. I just used my SU markers to colour the flowers and leaves, Regal rose and Old olive, mounted on Old olive c/s and Regal rose textured c/s.

More will be revealed very, very soon.....

A Rose is a Rose

What a fantastic stamp set! Although one of the more expensive
stamp sets in the brochure, this set is worth every penny!
When using this set, it is essential to have a Stamp-a-ma-Jig to be able to position the separate stamps in exactly the right place that gives such a wonderful image.
Inspired by Monica's blog, My Many many passions......, my dear
friend Carri and I , sat down one evening and played with this stamp set and made our own version of the 'Trinket Box'.
If you know Carri, hers will always be the blue version of any project!!
Thank you for the tip, Monica, for the decorative corners on the box. I have wondered for ages as to how these were done - perhaps a special corner edger - but yet another 'claim to fame' for the Scallop border punch. And so easy!

My 15 minutes of fame.........well maybe 2minutes!!

Well here I am, alongside Craft Presenter of the year, Stephanie Weightman, for the second year running, inside the studios of Ideal Shopping Direct in Peterborough. My TV debut (and my last I imagine!) - well they do say that everyone has 15 minutes of fame in their lifetime, and this must have been mine. Me on the right (and I forgot to breathe in!) and my friend Kathie on the left, had a wonderful time on Sunday when we had a guided tour around the Studios as well as appearing live - TWICE! - on Create & Craft and Ideal World shopping channels. Their hospitality was second to none, and the friendliness of all the crew was just fantastic. All the celebs were happy to chat with us as they made their way to their individual shows:

How does she do it , constantly?

So here's a few cards from the Oriental Flowers die-cut collection which I made during the day, and the Saturday morning before. I tried to be a little more adventurous than just layering up on the card.

Two cards put together, and the outline of the flower cut around for the inside edge of the card.

The actual card is cropped here, and layered onto an A5 card with the front folded back to give dimension and movement.

Here, the front of the card has been disected with a wavy cut, and the right hand edge has been adhered to the inside of the card, to make a complete picture when closed. And a 'dangly' hanging from the greeting - I love doing these!

I couldn't forget my beloved Stampin' Up so you can just see the scalloped border on the middle card here!

So back to reality now - catch up on everything at home (when the world stood still!) - and prepare for my Tuesday afternoon workshop, get my Stampers 10 order placed, 'make' 20 x A5 patterned envelopes, and basically get my act together for the coming weekend, when I am on a Copics Workshop in Leeds with the fantastic Maddy Hill. Just a quick post.......

So sorry, I've not been around for a while - so much to do, so little time, you know the feeling?

Well, tomorrow, Sunday 22nd February, I have been invited to the Ideal World/ Create and Craft studios in Peterborough! And maybe.....just maybe.... I could appear on TV for a brief moment. How scary is that?

It's Craft Weekend on Create and Craft, and I am one of 6 people who will be crafting in the background during the live shows on Sunday from 1pm - 2pm and again from 4pm - 5pm.

So today I am frantically making samples from the kit they sent me to play with. I just hope my MOJO doesn't escape me!

Snowy day makes

No! I didn't make the snowman - far too cold for me. And why would I choose to get cold and wet when I could be playing with stamps and ink?

So this little cutie was born! Very simple but neat, I thought. It's a Sugar Nellie stamp called Daisy, stamped with Stazon and watercoloured with SU watercolour crayons. Flowers were coloured with Sakura stardust in purple and I tried technique of feint light blue painting around the edge of the image to make it 'pop'. Quite easy and I think it works. Then I used my new Nesties Label 1 which are so difficult to find so got them from the States. I see they have new ones shown at CHA and will be released in March - so that probably means May by the time we get them here.

And I won't pre-order cos last time I did that, I waited nearly 3 months from the States and they were in the shops here before I got mine. So frustrating!

And another, which I saw the idea on ILWS forum. There was a link to show how it was made but I couldn't find the instructions so I made it MY WAY. And then I taught this at a craft class with some lovely results.

It's a slider card - when you pull the tag at the top, it reveals a message on the tag and just below the image. I used SU stamps for the wording, stamped directly onto the card surrounded by stamped flowers from my favourite stamp set of the moment Botanical Blooms (Sale-a-Bration set - FREE with orders of £45). Well, after two whole days of crafting (mainly stamping images) and no W**K, I'm off to work in the morning, so depression is starting to set in. Not really, but I'd much rather be at home, free to do as I please. But most people would need a job to feed my spending habit!

What are these, you may say to yourself. But for those who know, these are the cutest little hAnglars. They dropped through my letter box this morning and I've been on cloud 9 ever since.
They are about 3" high and just fabby. I haven't had a chance to colour ant yet but there's always tomorrow - so watch this space!

Pizza box style card holder

So here's my pizza box - for note cards and envelopes

So easy to make from an A4 sheet of cardstock. I'll attempt to give you basic instructions so that you can make your own version . I've used the leaf and flower from the Botanical Blooms set being one of the FREE sets during Sale-a-Bration. Just let me know if you would like to own one of these super sets.

Cut cardstock to 6" x 11".

With card portrait, score at 1" and 5".

Turn card 90 degrees so that card is landscape.

Score at 1" 5" 6" and 10".

If you want to decorate the box, it is easier to do that now, before cutting tabs and folding and sticking.

With card landscape, make 1" cuts along each score line, up to the horizontal score line but no further. There should be cuts at 1" 5" 6" and 10".

Turn the card 180 degrees and make the same cuts along the other side of the card.

Now fold all the score lines.

With sticky strip or a wet glue, stick the tabs to form a box base at one end of the card.

Where you have decorated the lid, stick the tabs to form a lid, and fold the hinged lid over the base to close.

I hope this makes sense but if you think how a pizza box works, it will help - I think!!

Variations:

Before sticking or folding, use a scallop edged punch along the sides of the lid.

Before sticking or folding, use a small circle punch to cut a semi-circle on the edge of the lid to make opening the box easier.

Stick ribbon around the edge of the lid.

Put a brad on the edge of the lid, centrally , to make opening the box easier.

You know when you have a tidy up (being the New Year an all that!!) you come across things that you bought ages ago, but have never used. Well here's a couple of cards using a stamp from a retired US set. In the summer of last year, I was on the look out for Stampin' Up sets as I kept hearing this name , 'SU', but didn't want to appear stupid not knowing - well would you?

Anyhow, I did eventually learn what the letters stood for and just had to go search out some of their goodies. Ebay was my first port of call and I was lucky enough to win an auction for 15 retired stamp sets for about £75 icl. P&P. A real bargain, I think, and here's one of the stamps I decided to take out of the box and use. Quick and easy - stamps perfectly (like all SU stamps do) -small area to colour - dazzling diamonds glitter for the stork - matted /layered on SU card stock and DSPs - grosgrain ribbon and brads to embellish.

Look out for more cards - or even a 'pizza box' !!

It's very easy and only took about 15 minutes to put together. Obviously you can decorate as much as you like, or as little. But it is quite cute and dinky in size, made to take about 5 notecards and envelopes. Would make a lovely gift!
